How a floor gets stripped and rewaxed.
Strip
A stripping solution softens the old finish, then a floor machine lifts it off the tile along with the embedded dirt.
Rinse and clean
The floor is rinsed until the residue is gone, and edges and corners are worked by hand, since the machine cannot reach them.
Wax in coats
Fresh finish goes down in thin, even coats, with drying time between each coat. Thin coats level better and last longer than one heavy layer.
Cure
The floor needs time before heavy traffic or furniture. We tell you how long to keep off it for the finish you chose.
Does the floor need a full strip?
When scrub and recoat is enough
If the finish is still even and the floor is just dull, a deep clean and a fresh coat can bring back the shine without stripping. This is faster and costs less.
When a full strip is the right call
If there are yellow layers, dark scuffs that will not clean off, or wax peeling at the edges, more coats will only seal the problem in. The floor needs to be stripped and started over. We look at it and tell you which one it is, and we tell you if it does not need the bigger job.
